A Book A Month - Book One

Book One:
The Book of Negroes, by Lawrence Hill

I am setting a new goal for myself. I would like to read at least one book a month. I have so many books collecting dust on my book shelves, I think it is time to dust them off and read them. Long ago, before kids, before owning a house, before blogging, I could easily read a book in a month. In fact, I am sure that I read several books a month, and a few times I spent the entire day reading and finishing a book (sigh - did I really have time to do that?).

I already have a list in mind and the order in which I want to read them. I just finished reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult and have already starting reading my next book, The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill.

The Book of Negroes was chosen as the winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best Overall Book, the winner of Canada Reads 2009, and was also chosen for One Book, One Community. This book looks fascinating and I have been dying to start reading it. The author will be coming to Kitchener-Waterloo mid-September and I am hoping to meet him. So, I will have just over two weeks to complete this book. That might be pushing it for me, but I will do my best.

On that note, I am off to bed to read!

  2. Oh, I remember the days when it was easy to read. Now I have to fight for my reading time. In fact, I cannot turn out the light without reading at least a few pages; otherwise, it seems a bit of a wasted day. Reading is living.

Please let us know what you think of the book...
