Lemonade For Sale! Get Your Fresh Lemonade!

On Saturday, the girls participated in the Great Kindness Challenge. Throughout the day we did various kind things from the suggested list. One thing that Heather really wanted to do was hold a lemonade stand (and then donate some of the proceeds) but it was too rainy.

So, today was the day we had our lemonade stand. Heather was so excited! Last night when she should have been sound asleep, she came downstairs and said, "Mom, I think we should have the lemonade stand tomorrow at 30 o'clock." "Sounds good to me", I said. Heather replied, "Is that in the afternoon?"

For the past few nights Heather has been drawing lemonade pitchers and glasses of lemonade and taping them up in her room and putting them on our pillows.

Here I am with a pitcher and glass of lemonade. This was on my pillow last night when I went to bed.

Another pitcher and glass of lemonade taped to Heather's wall.

This morning we went out to buy some cups and ice for the cooler. Once Lauchy was down for his nap we got to work on the posters.

After lunch when Lauchy went down for his second nap we sprang into action. This was one of those times when Heather was more than happy to help and quickly tidied up her mess in the living room and then helped me lug chairs outside. She even ran upstairs to get a container for the money even though we hadn't even discussed that yet. We were outside for all of 2 minutes when we had our first customer. I mean really, we weren't even ready yet, but this mom screeched to a stop and she and her two kids came by for some lemonade.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many people stopped to buy some. Even though our street has a lot of pedestrian traffic on it, the majority of those that stopped were people in their cars. A taxi driver stopped by as well as the man who drives the recycling truck. What really impressed me was that most of the customers paid $1.00 even though the price was only $0.25. The grand total after 2 hours? $15.27! Not sure where the extra 2 cents came from!

This was just after the first customer left.

Looking down the street for the next potential customer.

As usual, Tassie was in on the action and watching from under my chair.

Our lemonade stand was a great success and I am sure that there will be many more to come. The girls don't seem that keen to donate any of their money but we will discuss it tomorrow and see what happens. I recently read something that said children are not that good at understanding the concept of donating/giving until around the age of 6 (for the life of me I cannot remember where I read this). The girls were pretty excited tonight about their earnings and about the treats that they got to buy. I hope that once we sit down tomorrow morning and talk about it some more they will be a little more keen to donate.

  2. So cute!
I love the pictures of the girls. I might not have an average of 23,000 each year but there is certainly quite a few, especially when the girls get ahold of the camera and there is 125 pictures of the cat and dog doing mundane things.

Our thing we do for generating money to donate is take back the "money back" recycling and then we go the the SPCA to donate the money. The girls love this and it is a successful outing for many reasons. Reduced clutter, environmentalism, altruism, and sometimes you come home with a puppy...hope that one doesn't happen again for a while.
    Cheers
