No Grandchildren For Me

Heather and Addie are playing "Mom and Big Sister" right now. Here is a conversation that we just had...

Me: Heather, are you the mommy?

Heather: Yes.

Me: Good. Will you change Lauchlan's diaper then? That is what mommy's do.

Heather: No!

A pause.

Heather: Mommy, I don't want to grow a baby in my tummy when I get bigger.

Me: That's okay. You don't have to.

Heather: I don't want to change the diapers. That's why I don't want to have a baby.

I was so tempted to say something like, "You can get your husband to change the diapers" but in the end, decided not to say anything.

I love the things that my kids come up with.

  1. Isn't it great that we can just let our kids be and don't impose expectations on them (e.g. all women have babies - that's why they are women - ha!) What freedom! A couple of years ago Robbie said that he would want to be a woman when he grows up. My answer: Sure! Anything is possible!
