Summer Sandals, Mommy's Milk & More

Last night.....

I took these photos of the girls last night. This new swing was one of the other projects that Jeff completed on the weekend. Our neighbours have a similar swing in their yard and our girls have always envied it. Daddy took to the challenge and made his own version. There have been many fights over the swing ever since.

Last night I also discovered one of Charlie's hiding spots. He likes to sleep nestled deep in the hostas. He didn't seem too pleased that I was photographing him but I made sure to do it secretly so that the kids wouldn't notice!

Tassie's sleeping spot isn't so secret. It is right on the front porch for the world to see, but she doesn't seem to mind. Maybe she doesn't worry because she is practically camouflaged!

Now for today....

I am amazed at all of the things that Lauchlan has been trying recently. He can walk forwards down the steps now but definitely still needs some help. He started to climb up the ladder to the swing/slide structure yesterday. And, he can climb just about every piece of furniture in the house now. This is what he learned to climb this morning. I think what he was most pleased about was that he could turn the lamp off and on.

I am also amazed at how much better Lauchlan is with communicating. After his nap today he was very grumpy so I asked him if he wanted his bottle. He shook his head "no". I asked him if he wanted his soother. He shook his head "no". He then touched me on the chest so I asked him if he wanted mommy's milk (our friend Fona's name for breast milk). He nodded "yes". I was pretty impressed and after nursing him he was in such a better mood!

Finally, here is today's installment of "Craft-A-Day" as suggested by Heather. Once again, it comes from the Usborne Summer Fun book. This time the craft is called, "Summer Sandals".

This craft just required tracing the girls' feet, cutting the feet out, putting ribbon between the toes and taping behind. After that, I glued the feet down on blue paper and cut around them and then embellished with felt cut-outs and sequins. I ended up doing most of Addie's sandals but Heather did quite a lot of hers. She did the cutting and helped with some gluing and decorating. I laid the sandals on the table to photograph and to dry and Heather came to check them out. She said, "Oh, Addie's is better than mine!" When I asked her why she thought that she said because I helped to cut Addie's out and that she can't cut very well so hers looked bad. Heather then burst into tears. I have never seen Heather get so upset about any of her art before. She usually takes such pride in all the things that she makes and she thoroughly enjoys making things.

Heather is also very confident when it comes to this kind of thing and usually has no problem saying that her piece of art looks nicer or is better. I tried to comfort her as best I could and reassure her and give her positive feedback. She seemed okay afterwards but I hope she isn't starting to doubt her abilities. She is normally very creative and often comes up with neat craft projects on her own. She was the one to initiate using some of the felt to make scarves for all of the stuffed animals.
