A Perfect Kind of Day

We had a great day today! We spent lots of time together as a family, we got lots done, we had some time away from the kids, and had a fun meal for dinner.

we had stayed in bed long enough.

Last weekend we looked after 3 extra kids for Saturday and part of Sunday. Even though we were not expecting any reciprocation in return, our friends invited our kids over to play this afternoon. That meant Jeff and I had a few hours to ourselves! That never happens! We went uptown for a late lunch and browsed around some of the shops that we would never dream of going into with kids in tow. It was an unexpected and much appreciated treat!

This was some of the best french toast I have eaten!

The day ended with a movie for the kids (which gave me some time to finish cleaning the upstairs). A perfect kind of day!

Here is the french toast recipe. I just googled it and this recipe looked decent. I didn't use the bread in the recipe. Instead, we used Sun-Maid Cinnamon Swirl bread and it tasted delicious!

French Toast Recipe:
  • 4 (1 inch thick) slices King's Hawaiian® Sweet Bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Maple syrup
  1. Slice bread crosswise so that each slice is about 1-inch thick. Cut larger slices into halves or thirds, if desired. Set aside.
  2. In a shallow mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon.
  3. Quickly dip slices (do not soak) in egg mixture and cook until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Keep egg mixture stirred and spices well blended.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
